How Does Sabbath Help Us Trust God?

Happy Wednesday! I’ve got your Weekly Focus this week, since Danny already has quite a bit on his plate.

We’re talking about rest and the Sabbath, and I wanted to gather my thoughts a bit. Over the last few years I’ve been thinking about rest as an expression of trust.
I have endless reasons to work harder, wake up earlier, push myself, and try to squeeze maximum productivity out of each day. I want to provide for my family, be a good husband, raise decent children, earn the respect of my community, and accomplish something in my life. The things I worry about are important to me. The things I’m afraid of are very real and scary
But what if God loves me? What if God really loves me?..
I can’t always stop worrying, but I can stop working. I can’t stop feeling fear, but I can stop fighting it on my own. I can rest to remember that God loves me. I can stop what I’m doing and practice trusting that God will take care of me (I clearly can’t take care of myself). Without God’s love and grace, I wouldn’t have any of the good things in my life. Without His love and grace, I won’t be able to hold onto any of it either.
So I’ve been practicing rest as an expression of trust. How does this help you think about Sabbath?
